Best Time to Visit Menorca: Quick Answer

  • The best time to visit Menorca is generally between May and October, when the weather is warm and sunny and the island is in full swing.
  • During these months, you can expect long days of sunshine, with temperatures ranging from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius.
  • If you’re visiting Menorca for a beach holiday, summer is the best time to go. However, keep in mind that July and August can be very hot and crowded, especially in the south coast beaches.
  • If you prefer a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere, you might want to consider visiting in the shoulder seasons (May, June, September, or October) when the crowds are thinner, the prices are lower, and it’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors.

Overview of Weather in Menorca

Menorca is a beautiful island located in the Mediterranean Sea, known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters. The climate in Menorca is typically Mediterranean, with warm and sunny summers and mild winters. The island is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine per year, making it an ideal destination for sun-seekers.

The average temperature in Menorca during the summer months (June to September) ranges from 24°C to 27°C, while the winter months (December to February) can see temperatures drop to 8°C to 10°C. The shoulder seasons of spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) are also great times to visit Menorca, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 23°C.

The sea temperature in Menorca is perfect for swimming during the summer months, with an average temperature of 23°C to 25°C. The water temperature drops in the winter months, but it’s still possible to take a dip in the sea, with an average temperature of 14°C to 17°C.

The climate in Menorca is influenced by the sea, which helps to moderate the temperature and keep the island cooler in the summer months. However, it also means that Menorca can be prone to occasional rain showers, especially in the winter months.

In my opinion, the best time to visit Menorca is during the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn, when the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. However, if you’re looking for a beach holiday, then the summer months are the best time to visit Menorca, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine.

Best Time to Visit Menorca: By Season

Menorca is a beautiful island that can be visited year-round, but the best time to visit depends on your preferences and interests. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect during each season.

Summer (June – August)

As an island, it’s no surprise to learn that Menorca comes fully alive in the summer!

Summer is the peak tourist season in Menorca, and for good reason. The weather is hot and sunny, with temperatures averaging around 25°C (77°F) and highs of 29°C (84°F) in August. This is the perfect time to enjoy the island’s beautiful beaches and clear waters. Keep in mind that the south coast beaches can get crowded during this time, so it’s best to head to the north coast for a more peaceful experience.

The good thing is that Menorca is not as popular as its sister island Mallorca, so you can still enjoy a relatively peaceful summer vacation here. But it’s still a good idea to book your accommodations in advance to get the best deals!

Autumn (September – November)

Autumn is a great time to visit Menorca if you want to avoid the crowds and still enjoy warm weather. Temperatures are still pleasant, with averages around 20°C (68°F) in September and dropping to 15°C (59°F) in November. This is also the wettest season, so be sure to pack an umbrella or raincoat.

Menorca in autumn is very lovely and as the summer crowd thins out, you can enjoy more of the island’s charms without too many people. As this is the shoulder season, some services may be limited — think bus services, restaurants, cafes, and shops — compared to the summer months.

Winter (December – February)

Winter is the low season in Menorca, but it can still be a great time to visit if you’re looking for a quiet getaway. The weather is cooler, with temperatures averaging around 10°C (50°F) and dropping to 5°C (41°F) in January. There are still plenty of things to do, such as exploring the island’s historic sites and enjoying local cuisine.

That said, if you’re visiting Menorca in winter, it’s important to note that it is much quieter during this time. Many shops and restaurants, especially in the smaller towns, are closed for the season or run on limited winter hours so you’ll have fewer choices. The same goes with the island’s bus services: only some routes remain running in the winter and have a limited winter schedule.

On my visit to Menorca, we arrived towards the end of the winter and found that the island was quiet and tranquil. As it was low season, we also managed to get a great deal on our apartment rental!

Spring (March – May)

Spring is a great time to visit Menorca if you want to avoid crowds and enjoy mild weather. Temperatures are pleasant, with averages around 15°C (59°F) in March and rising to 20°C (68°F) in May. This is also the perfect time to see the island’s wildflowers in bloom.

In the early half of spring, many places may remain closed and services may be limited, especially in the smaller towns so that’s something you should be prepared for. However, as we go into April and May, you’ll find that the island is waking up from winter and more amenities will start opening up.

I’ve visited Menorca in the spring and very much enjoyed my time there. It’s still relatively quiet with fewer tourists which makes for a relaxing holiday. The warm daytime temperatures allow you to make the most of the outdoors and it’s still quiet enough that you’ll meet very few people on the beaches or the trails!

Car Rental Recommendation

I highly recommend renting a car as it’s the best way to get around Menorca. During my stay, I used Discover Cars to rent a car on the island. Just plug in your location and dates and you’ll get the best deals available. Super convenient and easy!

The best time to visit Menorca depends on your preferences and interests. Summer is great for beach lovers, autumn for those who want to avoid the crowds, winter for a quiet getaway, and spring for nature enthusiasts. Whatever season you choose, Menorca is sure to impress you with its natural beauty and charm.
